FKF to unveil new Harambee Stars head coach on Monday

Football Kenya Federation has revealed it will unveil the new Harambee Stars head coach on Monday, March 3, 2025.
The new head coach will replace Engin Firat, who left his position by way of resignation after Kenya failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Firat later cited lack of payment of his salaries as one of the reasons he left the Kenya job.
Meanwhile, the new head coach will be unveilled at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in the afternoon.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) cordially invites you to the unveiling of the new Harambee Stars head coach on Monday, 3rd March 2025, at KICC Pavilion, Nairobi, from 1:45 pm EAT.
“The event will feature key FKF officials and stakeholders as they introduce the new coach and outline the vision for the national team,” a statement from FKF to the media stations on Saturday, March 1, 2025, read.
FKF is expected to reveal contract details, other members of the coaching staff, and other relevant information for the incoming team on that day.
Former Manchester United first-team coach Benni McCarthy has been heavily linked with the job.
The new coaching staff is expected to face a lot of pressure in guiding the senior national team, given that it has not featured in a competitive international tournament for a while.
Harambee Stars were last in the AFCON in 2019 and failed to qualify for the Morocco finals this year. Their World Cup dream is also slim given how they have so far performed for the 2026 qualification. They are fourth in Group F, which also has Ivory Coast, the pool leaders, Seychelles, Burundi, Gabon, and the Gambia.
Olunga’s confidence
Whether the new coach will keep Michael Olunga as the captain is a matter of waiting to see. However, the Al Duhail SC striker believes Harambee Stars has what it takes to compete in international tournaments.

“We have what it takes. We have a very good squad coming up, but a lot of preparation is needed. The success we achieve is a result of work done behind the scenes. I believe we have the talent, potential, and capability to make these bigger stages,” Olunga said in a recent interview.
