FKF reveals league’s end date ahead of CHAN preps
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League 2024-25 league season will culminate on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the football body has announced.
FKF confirmed the status of the season calendar following a consultative meeting with the Premier League clubs at Kandanda House on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
The meeting was aimed at strengthening the league and enhancing its management.
The federation is keen on shifting focus on the upcoming African Nations Championship, slated for August 2 in East Africa.
“To allow proper planning for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August, clubs agreed that the FKF Premier League season will conclude by 31 May,” the FKF statement read.
The tourney, to be hosted by three countries- Kenya Uganda and Tanzania, will see 16 countries battle it out in the biennial showdown featuring players playing their local leagues.
The tourney was initially scheduled for February before the new dates were announced by CAF citing delays in infrastructural development.
In a statement on Tuesday, January 14, 2024, CAF said the postponement was done after advice from technical experts, who felt that the three host countries needed more time for infrastructural preparedness.
“Good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful Total Energies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024,” CAF stated.

“However the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.”
Despite the setback, CAF conducted the draw on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in a glamorous ceremony at the KICC.
With the postponement eliciting mixed reactions and jitters among Kenyan football lovers, football administrators in Kenya opted to dwell on its positives.

CHAN local organizing committee chairman Nicholas Musonye termed the postponement as crucial in attaining advanced preparations geared towards proper hosting.
The CECAFA official mentioned that the move allows them to take advantage of marketing strategies that would have been difficult to implement under the pressures and demands of the earlier date.
The competition aims to assess the preparedness and capacity of the three nations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations games.
