Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has called on corporate organisations to seize the momentum created by Harambee Stars’ impressive run at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) and formally invest in Kenyan football.

Maintaining that FKF’s ultimate goal is to see the national men’s football team play at the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Hussein noted that the national Harambee Stars strong performances at the tournament were largely inspired by President William Ruto’s direct involvement, including visits, motivation, and financial incentives, which he credited for “60 percent of Harambee Stars’ great results in CHAN.”

Speaking on a local radio station on Monday, August 18, 2025, Hussein said the President has shown what motivation can do, challenging corporates to come on board and ensure that the CHAN success translates into sustainable growth for football in Kenya.

World Cup dream

The FKF boss further outlined a bold vision for the game, emphasising that achieving the World Cup dream requires more than just short-term incentives, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructural development and grassroots investment.

“The goal is for Harambee Stars to play at the World Cup in 2030.” He said, adding that to get there, the country must invest in developing infrastructure from the grassroots level and ensure young talent has the right pathways to the national team.

The FKF president’s call comes at a time when Kenyan football has been regaining attention both locally and internationally, thanks to the national team’s resurgence. With political goodwill already evident, Hussein believes the missing piece is structured corporate sponsorship to support both league football and youth development programs.

Currently, Harambee Stars have qualified for the 2024 African Nations Championship quarter-finals after topping Group A with 10 points, followed closely by two-time champions Morocco in second position with nine points. Kenya’s 1-0 win over Zambia on Sunday booked their last eight berth with Madagascar, who finished second in Pool B that was won by CHAN co-hosts Tanzania.

Harambee Stars will be seeking to win their maiden CHAN title in their season debut in the final scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, on home soil at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. The team will face Madagascar on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Kasarani Stadium, looking to storm the tournament’s semi-finals on an unbeaten run.
