World record holder for the 1,500 metres and mile Faith Kipyegon has revealed the areas she will focus on as she prepares to feature in both the 5000m and 1500m races at the 2024 Olympics.

Kipyegon is among the 36 athletes who will be part of Team Kenya in the 2024 Olympics after emerging top in the trials held over the weekend.

After qualifying for Paris, where she will be chasing her third successive gold medal with a gun-to-tape victory in the 1500m, winning in 3:53.99, Kipyegon revealed her target was to achieve 3:55 but she was happy to have gone beyond, finishing at 3:53.

She revealed that her focus is to work on her speed and endurance in preparation for the 2024 Olympics.

“I wanted to run 3:55 but was surprised with the 3:53. I am excited to be back on track. I thank God I have been able to make the team for both the 5000m and the 1500m events. I’ll go and focus now on speed and endurance ahead of Paris,” she revealed after the trials.

“I am looking forward to a bright summer,” she added.

Her performance in the 1500m marked the fastest time ever in the women’s 1500m on Kenyan soil. Kipyegon’s exceptional display, despite not competing since last September’s Prefontaine Classic, reaffirms her status as a standard-setter.
