Explained: Why Harambee Stars’ Mohammed Bajaber should go to Sweden before eyeing top European clubs

Star Field Elite Academy director Robert Muthomi has explained why it would be prudent for Harambee Stars attacker Mohammed Bajaber to sign for a Swedish club as his first European club.
Although Bajaber has been shining in the local scene, he sprung to more limelight when he featured for Harambee Stars in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon. Indeed, the Kenya Police star scored a spectacular goal against Gambia in Ivory Coast during a 3-3 draw.
Apart from preferably getting a Swedish club first, Muthomi says getting a club that plays him in the right position is most desirable.
“Looking at him, obviously he could end up in Europe. We hope that he can get a good club that plays him in the correct position, and from there, a team playing in the top league in Europe. Any of the big five countries.
“I would advise that he take the path that most of the Kenyan pros have taken. Not to go into a very big team or club where expectations are very high. He needs to go where you are given time to acclimatize to European football, where the pressure is not very high, and Sweden is a great country for most Kenyans,” Muthomi said as quoted by a local publication.

Success path
While defending his position on why he prefers a Swedish club, Muthomi said successful Kenyan soccer stars took that path.
“Kenyans seem to do well in Sweden, so I would be happy for a move to those countries, and I would also be happy for a move to different parts of Europe.
“Belgium is a good choice but not directly to a big league like Bundesliga, English Premier League, or even the Italian league. We first want him to cut his teeth in Belgium, Denmark, or Sweden and then make the move from there,” he continued.
McDonald Mariga, Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma and Timothy Ouma, and of course Victor Wanyama, took similar routes.
