Eldoret Falcons will remain in the FKF Women’s National Super League next season after successfully winning a protest case against Gene Queens FC.

The ruling by Football Kenya Federation handed them three vital points and saved them from the drop.

The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee found Gene Queens guilty of fielding an ineligible player, awarding the March 22, 2025 fixture to Falcons on a 2-0 scoreline.

The outcome saw the Eldoret-based club finish 10th on the log with 17 points — just enough to avoid relegation.

Controversial fixture

The disputed match, played at Moi Marula Grounds, had initially ended in a draw. However, Falcons contested the eligibility of a player fielded by Gene Queens, listed as Evalyne Ayieta, whom they alleged was actually Irene Yego, registered to McMillan Queens FC.

The FKF ruling confirmed the allegation, stating that Gene Queens failed to present a valid player license.

“The player’s transfer to Gene Queens FC was not finalized prior to the match, and no license number was indicated,” read part of the FKF statement.

Season saved

The three points saw Eldoret Falcons move up to 10th place on the league table with 17 points, just above the relegation cut-off.

It marked a dramatic end to a difficult campaign for the side, who will now regroup ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, the player at the center of the impersonation claim, Irene Yego, has been suspended for 365 days for using an altered ID and falsifying her identity.

With the decision finalised, Falcons will live to fight another season, while Gene Queens face disciplinary consequences and the prospect of rebuilding their reputation.
