KCB Rugby Football Club has announced a raft of managerial changes at the club, with Dennis Mwanja named the new interim head coach at the den.

Mwanja, who also doubles up as the Kenya Lionesses coach, will replace Oliver Mang’eni, whose contract is due to expire on June 30, 2025.

The club has further revealed that Bucks Coach Darwin Mukidza, the former Seven player, and Team Manager Priscilla Amollo Ong’ombe will also be following Mang’eni out of the den after the expiry of their contracts.

Speaking regarding the appointments, club chair James Mugo stated that the club aims to maintain its competitive edge in Kenya’s top league, as well as return to its past glory days.

“We are looking at continually rebuilding the team to get back to winning ways. The club seeks to continue contributing positively to the game of rugby in Kenya and sustain its position as a top-tier playing club. Key to this is having a team that is ‘firing on all cylinders.’ After productive discussions with the coaching team, we have made a painful but aligned decision to make changes in the technical bench,” Mugo said, as quoted by the club’s media site.

He also noted a change of strategy meant to end the Bankers’ playing second fiddle to giants like Kabras Sugar and Menengai Oliers.

“The club remains a formidable force in the local rugby scene. Our ambition is to reclaim the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup titles as well as to continue churning out players for the national team. With that in mind, we have to ensure that we lay the right foundation for a successful future,” he added.

The transitions come at a time when the team is looking to rejuvenate itself ahead of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit starting in July.

It also comes a week after its sister football club, KCB FC also fired its entire technical bench over a spate of unconvincing results in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The club has confirmed relieving the officials of their duties via a communique from the club on Friday, May 23, 2025.

In the statement, the Premier League club suspended its entire technical bench, led by Patrick Odhiambo.

The sack also affected Odhiambo’s assistant, Jeffers Odongo, and fitness trainer Eric Muranda.

Goalkeeping coach Samuel Koko was the only one left unscathed, with the club entrusting him with the responsibility of guiding the team for the two remaining league games.

“Goalkeeper coach Samuel Koko Okoth will assume the interim responsibility for the team in the remaining two matches in the FKF Premier League 2024/25 matches,” the statement said.

The club said the changes were necessitated by the need to turn its on-pitch fortunes around.

“The changes made to the technical bench are in a bid to turn around the team’s performance in the remainder of the season.
