Kenya Police FC announced their arrival on the regional stage in style, cruising to a commanding 4-0 victory over Djibouti’s Garde Cotes FC in their opening match of the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Fresh from helping Harambee Stars reach the quarterfinals of CHAN 2024, Edward Omondi marked his debut for Police FC with a goal, adding the perfect finishing touch to a dominant performance by the Law Enforcers. Legendary Joash Onyango was among five players making their debuts for the league champions.

Coach Etienne Ndayiragije’s side wasted no time asserting their authority, quickly taking control of the game and putting their opponents under constant pressure.

Eric Zakayo opened the scoring in the 17th minute, calmly slotting home after a strong build-up play that showcased Police’s attacking intent. Thirteen minutes later, David Simiyu doubled the lead, converting a precise pass from Baraka Badi, giving the Kenyan champions a comfortable cushion before halftime.

The second half was even more emphatic. Right-back Badi struck a thunderous shot four minutes after the restart, which deflected off a defender to make it 3-0.

Substitute Omondi then sealed the win with a textbook header, connecting with a perfectly delivered cross from Moise Mbombo to put the match out of reach at 4-0. Police continued to create chances, with David Okoth and Mbombo testing the Djibouti goalkeeper, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

Police top group

The victory puts Kenya Police FC at the top of Group A with three points, ahead of Ethiopian Coffee and Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars, who will face off later in the day. It was a statement win not only for their dominance on the field but also as a signal that they are serious contenders for the Kagame Cup title in their maiden appearance.

Police FC, who only gained promotion to the top tier in 2021, have already made history by clinching the 2024/2025 Kenyan Premier League title. This regional tournament now offers them an opportunity to build momentum ahead of their CAF Champions League debut later this year.

Coach Ndayiragije earlier expressed confidence that his team could compete at the highest level.

“We are here not just to participate but to fight for every ball and make Kenya proud,” he said.

The tactical discipline, mental toughness, and attacking flair displayed against Garde Cotes will serve as a solid foundation as Police aim to leave a mark in Dar es Salaam and beyond.
