Cameroon must prepare for tough match, ‘Dogo’ warns
Harambee Starlets forward Mwanahalima ‘Dogo’ Adam has sounded a warning to their 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers opponents Cameroon noting that the West African nation should prepare for a brute jostling on Friday in Douala.
Dogo, who plays in Turkey for Hakkarigucu Spor, was oozing with confidence yesterday at the Kasarani Stadium when Starlets held their final training sessions in Nairobi noting they are taking a battle to Douala and Cameroon should be ready for a fall at their backyard.
“Cameroon must fall”, said Dogo in her opening remarks in a press conference at the Kasarani Annex.
“Currently, football is very funny and surprising. It is the 90 minutes that will decide the outcome. Just like Zambia, they came here at home (Nairobi) and we drew with them and they went to the World Cup, and they even beat Germany in a friendly game.
The same applies to Cameroon. Their going to the World Cup does not mean anything to us. This is football and we are prepared for war with them. Cameroon must fall,” she added.
Dogo expressed her joy for returning to the national team for the first time in two years due to the prolonged suspension that denied them a clear chance of qualifying for the last edition of the WAFCON.
“I feel so good coming back to the national team after two years. I was really looking forward to this moment to represent my country.
It has been stressful during the international windows when other players go to their countries and we are left behind for lack of previous activities. We promise to give our best. We are going to give our all. Let the fans support us just the way they do for Harambee Stars. For sure, will make Kenyans happy”.
The experienced player has predominantly been used as a center-forward at the national team but she is now playing as a creative midfielder at her club in Turkey.
Dogo’s availability for the Friday fixture gives coach Beldine Odemba more striking options up front, with a possible partnership with a deadly trio of Esse Akida, Jentrix Shikangwa and Violet Nanjala.
