‘Bring on Gambia now’ – Gor Mahia taunt Harambee Stars after beating Posta Rangers in friendly
Gor Mahia FC flexed their muscles in a friendly clash against Posta Rangers on Saturday morning, September 6, 2025, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory.
Goals from Shaban and Felix set the tone for the match, as the club showcased sharp attacking play and solid coordination under coach Charles Akkonor.
Taking to X, the club shared the result with a playful jab aimed at Harambee Stars, posting, “Walete hiyo Gambia iliwasumbua jana tuwapigie mabao. Kwani, what is…”—a local-flavoured challenge referencing Kenya’s recent defeat to the Gambia in World Cup qualifiers.
The post exudes confidence, reflecting the club’s current momentum following a series of strategic signings and renewed ambition for the season.

Harambee Stars’ setback
The taunt comes just a day after Harambee Stars suffered a heavy 3-1 loss to the Gambia Scorpions at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. Sheriff Sinyan opened the scoring with a header in the 12th minute, followed by Yankuba Minteh doubling the lead in the 25th minute.
Musa Barrow completed a dominant first-half display with a goal in the 38th minute. Ryan Ogam’s late strike in the 81st minute was a mere consolation as Kenya’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup took a major hit.
Kenya now sits fifth in Group F with seven points, trailing behind Gambia and other leading sides Gabon and Ivory Coast. Coach Benni McCarthy’s squad struggled to contain a disciplined Gambian side, leaving the national team with lessons to regroup ahead of future fixtures.
Confidence boost for Gor Mahia
For Gor Mahia, the friendly win is more than just a morale booster. Coming off a trophyless season and a reshuffle on the technical bench, the club has been active in the transfer market, unveiling new signings Ebenezer Adukwa and George Amonno on September 3, 2025.
The playful “Bring on Gambia now” comment highlights a mixture of pride and competitive spirit, as Gor Mahia channels national football heartbreak into its own confidence.
This mirrors past support for Harambee Stars players, including Michael Kibwage and Lewis Bandi, after their CHAN quarter-final exit to Madagascar, showing the club balances rivalry with respect.
