AFC Leopards chairman, Boniface Ambani, has broken his silence amid growing online speculation about internal wrangles within the club’s leadership.

Speaking on Friday evening, October 10, 2025, shortly after Ingwe were eliminated from the ODM@20 Tournament in Mombasa, Ambani dismissed rumours of division in the Leopards’ management before he insisted that his focus remains on rebuilding the team’s integrity and stability.

The statement follows the circulation of a viral post accusing the current leadership of mismanagement and internal conflict, including claims of tension between the club’s CEO, Ronald Namai, and Secretary General Isaac Mulindi.

The post, shared widely among Leopards fans, alleged that “both Ambanis”, meaning the club chairman and his brother, the team’s head coach, Fred Ambani, were destroying the club instead of rebuilding it, further suggesting that an impeachment process was being planned.

Sealing loopholes

In a quick rejoinder, Boniface Ambani, however, refuted these claims, saying the ongoing smear campaign was orchestrated by individuals who have been cut off from exploiting the club’s resources.

“This is what happens when all taps have been closed… They’ll fight back. In God I trust,” he said, implying that efforts to seal financial loopholes within the club had provoked resistance from those benefiting from past mismanagement.

He emphasised that there is no bad blood between the Secretary General and the CEO, contrary to the circulating reports.

“The fight to break down the current office has failed. We decided to unite and work for the club,” Ambani stated, reaffirming his commitment to steering AFC Leopards toward stability and transparency.

Ambani’s leadership has faced mounting scrutiny in recent weeks, particularly during the ODM @20 Tournament in Mombasa, where tensions within the camp appeared to spill into the public domain. Yet, despite criticism, the chairman remains firm, insisting that his administration will not bow to political or personal interests that threaten the club’s progress.

Meanwhile, away from backroom issues, AFC Leopards continue navigating this turbulent phase into the new Kenyan Premier League season. The 1998 champions are still winless in the fourth round of the ongoing campaign. The club has managed two draws in two outings, marking a slow start to the new football season in the country.
