Kibera Black Stars FC recovered brilliantly at the weekend after their round two mishaps against SS Assad FC to go top of the standings with six points off three matches in the 2022/23 National Super League campaign.

The Slum Boys beat Mombasa Elite 2-1 at Camp Toyoyo Saturday through goals by Michael Omulama and Clement Masakidi in the first and 39th minute respectively with the visitors’ goal coming off in the 41st minute via a penalty.

The result means that Elite are dangling in 11th place with zero points after losing two of their opening league encounters.

In another weekend duel, second-placed Mara Sugar FC were 2-0 winners away to Coastal Heroes at Mbaraki Sports Club. That was the second match for Heroes to drop points and are now on four points.

The Sugarmen on six points had their goals in this match through Philemon Nyakwakwa and Mohammed Baraza in the 12th minute and 60th minute respectively.

The match had all manner of action with Heroes having two cautions against Lucky Kaingu and Kelvin Washer in the 15th minute and 57th minute respectively.

The away team had three yellow card bookings and two red cards to Philemeon Nyakwakwa and Godfrey Naibe.

Fred Nyakundi of Heroes was also booked for dissent in the 65th minute in a match that players were somewhat ill-tempered.

Shabana FC on their part held firm with their second win of the campaign following a slim 1-0 win over SS Assad at Gusii Stadium.

Peter Ongechi got the all-important goal in the 23rd minute to push the team also known as Tore Bobe to third on the log having conceded no goal thus far.

With the loss, Assad drops to sixth place with three points.

Meanwhile, tomorrow sees five matches on the cards across the country.
