Athletics Kenya targets clean athletics as Cross Country Championship approaches

Athletics Kenya (AK) has designated this for the verification of all athletes who have qualified for the national Cross Country Championship in Eldoret City on Saturday.
The one-day verification process aims to combat age cheating and doping among athletes from the 16 AK-affiliated regions.
The announcement followed a meeting this week at AK’s Riadha House attended by all secretary generals of the affiliate regions.
Speaking to People Sport yesterday, AK Nyanza North Secretary General Thomas Ogwacho explained that during the AK verification exercise, the athletics body would confirm a number of factors before clearing athletes to compete in the national championship.
“Athletics camp coaches, directors, and officials from the uniformed forces will also use the competition to select and sign potential athletes,” Ogwacho added.
He further emphasised that AK officials would verify athletes’ registration for their respective races and check for age cheating or doping violations.
