Athletics Kenya rolls out nationwide registration of training camps
Athletics Kenya (AK) has announced the commencement of a nationwide registration exercise for all athletics training camps, groups, coaches, medical staff, and other Athlete Support Personnel (ASP) working with athletes across the country.
The initiative, set to officially begin on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, aims to standardise and regulate operations within athletics environments to ensure a safe, professional, and accountable framework for nurturing talent.
”Athletics Kenya is pleased to announce the start of the national registration exercise for all Athletics Training Camps Groups, as well as coaches, medical personnel and other Athlete Support Personnel (ASP) working with athletes,” AK said in a statement on Friday, August 8, 2025.
According to AK, the registration process will cover all active training entities, ranging from elite performance camps to grassroots groups, and will require support personnel to meet specific documentation standards.
Mandatory requirements
Athletics Kenya has released strict guidelines where coaches will be required to submit a valid coaching certificate alongside a Police Clearance Certificate. Any medical staff must provide a professional license and a police clearance certificate.
Other ASP members, including camp administrators, are expected to submit relevant professional certifications in their respective fields and a Police Clearance Certificate.
The country’s athletics governing body also went ahead to state that all foreign nationals, regardless of their role, will need to present a valid work permit to qualify for registration.
According to AK, this step is part of a broader strategy to protect the welfare of athletes, promote professionalism in training environments, and hold all stakeholders accountable.

”The registration exercise is a crucial step in our strategy to standardise and regulate the operations of all athletics camps and groups all over the country to ensure a safe, professional, and accountable environment for our athletes,” AK noted in its statement.
Additionally, AK said all foreign nationals, regardless of their role, must provide a valid work permit.
The move comes amid increasing calls for better oversight of athletics training structures in Kenya, following global concerns over athlete welfare, doping prevention, and ethical conduct in sports management.
