AFC Leopards Secretary General (SG) Gilbert Andugu has passed away in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

Andugu, who died on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, had been hospitalised since the beginning of  May.

AFC confirmed the demise on social media terming his loss as a huge blow to the club he served wholeheartedly.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our Secretary General, Mr Gilbert Andugu. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Andugu’s family, friends, and relatives,” AFC said.

Gilbert Andugu’s demise comes a month after he confirmed that he will not be seeking re-election when the club holds its polls in June 2025 citing personal reasons for his decision to step aside.

“I’ve given my all in service to the club, and it’s time for new ideas and new leadership. I remain a passionate supporter of Ingwe and will continue supporting the club from the stands,” said Andugu.

Andugu’s Tenure

Elected in June 2022, the late secretary general beat Robert Situma and Tonny Omusina after garnering 432 votes.

Situma garnered 224 votes, while Omusina came third with 49.

He took over from Oliver Sikuku, who had served the maximum two terms allowed by the club’s constitution.

Before assuming the role, Andugu served as the chairman of the branch heads and had built a reputation for his organisational skills and commitment to the club.

Andugu previously led the Mombasa branch from 2015, playing a key role in growing its membership base and financing the AFC Leopards Clubs, an effort that saw the junior side win the Nairobi Region League.

 During his tenure, Andugu oversaw several structural improvements, notably within the club’s human resource department, which he left more streamlined and efficient.
