AFC Leopards fans call for Ambani’s demotion after Posta Rangers’ frustration
A section of AFC Leopards supporters has called for the hiring of a new head coach, as Ingwe were held to a 2-2 draw by Posta Rangers in their second outing of the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League season at Dandora Stadium on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Visibly irate supporters argued that the current club head coach, Fred Ambani, is not fit for the position he holds but would be better as an assistant coach. Ambani was appointed in November 2024 as the club’s interim coach following the dismissal of Thomas Trucha. He led the team to a fifth-place position with 36 points in the 2024/2025 FKF Premier League season.
However, since his appointment as Ingwe head coach in September 2025, Fred Ambani has yet to register a win with the 1998 league winners. The club legend guided his men to a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka in the league opener on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex before enduring another 2-2 stalemate against in-form Posta Rangers at Dandora Stadium on Friday, October 3, 2025.
AFC Leopards’ head coach position is arguably one of the hardest positions to hold in Kenya’s football ecosystem, based on the external pressure from the club’s faithful.
Barely two matches into the new season, a section of Ingwe supporters is calling for Fred Ambani’s demotion to the assistant coach position, a man who was with the team when they last lifted the league title nearly three decades ago.
Ambani fits as an assistant
”A game like that, we only had ten minutes left on the clock to seal the win, but we were held. It does not make sense. As of the next match, the players and the technical bench should know that we want three points, nothing else.”
“Fred Ambani should be an assistant coach; the club should hire a senior coach. Doing the opposite does not add up,” AFC Leopards diehard Afande Shisanya said.
Kelly Madada put AFC Leopards in the lead on the 22nd-minute mark. Jackson Dwang levelled the scores for Posta Rangers from a free kick in the 33rd minute. AFC Leopards regained their lead in the second when Ugandan import Samuel Ssenyonjo scored his first league goal for the club.
However, with ten minutes left, Eliud Lokuwam rescued a point for Posta Rangers to maintain the Mailmen’s unbeaten start to the SportPesa League 25/26 in a 2-2.
