Senator Essy Okenyuri calls for action to safeguard children after Kisii killings
Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri has condemned the brutal killing of two children in Kisii County, calling for swift investigations and justice for the victims.
Okenyuri wrote on X on Thursday, July 9, 2026, that she was heartbroken by the deaths of the two children, aged four and five.
The senator went on to state that the 2 kids who were violated before being killed in Nkura Village, Bomorenda Ward.
“The tragic news of the violation and consequent brutal killing of two innocent children aged four and five years in Nkura Village, Bomorenda Ward, Bonchari Constituency has left me heartbroken,” Okenyuri said.

She questioned how society had reached a point where children had become victims of extreme violence.
“It is extremely difficult to comprehend how, as a society, we have descended so low to a point where our children, the very embodiment of innocence and our hope for tomorrow, become victims of such unimaginable cruelty,” she said.

The senator said there could never be any justification for violence against children and extended her condolences to the bereaved families.
“I unequivocally condemn this heinous act since there can never be any justification for violence against children,” she said.
“My heartfelt condolences to the families for losing their light. No parent should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child in such horrific circumstances. I pray that God grants them strength and the grace to endure this painful loss.”

Okenyuri urged investigative agencies to move with speed and ensure those behind the killings are brought to justice.
“I call upon the relevant investigative agencies to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and act accordingly. Every effort must be made to establish the truth, apprehend those responsible and ensure that justice is served swiftly,” she stated.

The senator further called on communities to take greater responsibility in protecting children and responding to warning signs before tragedies occur.
“We must foster communities where children are safe, where warning signs are never ignored and where every member of society is committed to defending the dignity of every child,” she said.
Okenyuri concluded by praying for the two children, saying, “I pray for the repose of the souls of these two innocent children. May they rest in eternal peace.”
