Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament  Kabando wa Kabando has claimed that President William Ruto will be voted out after one term, insisting that no amount of intimidation or use of state power will stop Kenyans from expressing their will at the ballot.

In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Kabando said no force would stop President Ruto from becoming a one-term president, arguing that the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election would serve as an early indicator of the political mood ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“The Ol Kalou indicator is loading spot on. WANTAM is unstoppable. Neither your militia shepherded by Murkomen nor our reputable professional military will rescue you from the people’s ballot power,” Kabando said.

He urged political leaders and their supporters to shun violence, saying elections should be decided through the ballot and not confrontation.

“Nobody should harm anyone because of politics. Unlike in our forefathers’ armed struggle against colonialism, we’re a Republic with a most decent progressive Katiba. In Ol Kalou, we’ve the ballot to tell you,” he stated.

Ol Kalou by-election takes centre stage

Kabando’s remarks come as political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the July 16 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, which has attracted intense campaigns from both the Kenya Kwanza administration and the opposition.

The by-election has become a major political battleground, with both camps portraying the contest as a key test of public support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kabando further accused President Ruto of misleading Kenyans during the 2022 campaigns, claiming voters would use the ballot to express their verdict.

“You, William Ruto, are a wolf in sheep’s clothing… the people’s ballot power will speak,” he added.

Nyutu alleges voter inducement

Kabando’s sentiments came as Nyandarua Senator Joe Nyutu accused the government of openly using state resources to influence voters in Ol Kalou.

Speaking during a televised interview on Thursday, Nyutu claimed several principal secretaries and senior government officials had camped in the constituency, where they were launching development projects while distributing items including mattresses, blankets and rice to residents.

“The government is bribing people openly, visibly,” Nyutu claimed.

Questions over IEBC

Nyutu also faulted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for what he termed failure to enforce electoral laws against voter bribery.

He argued that the electoral agency has the legal mandate to act against candidates or parties found engaging in electoral offences but had remained silent despite what he described as blatant violations.

The Ol Kalou by-election has increasingly drawn national attention, with both government and opposition leaders framing the contest as an important political test ahead of the 2027 elections.
