But who exactly is Vincent Harper? Born in September 2000, Harper is a professional footballer of English-Kenyan descent. He moved to England at a young age, and as a result, he holds dual citizenship.

Harper’s football journey began when he joined Bristol City and swiftly progressed through their youth ranks.

His remarkable talent was evident as he made his mark in the under-16 level, eventually earning a spot in the under-18s. He made an impressive debut, scoring two goals in his very first match. In May 2019, Harper signed his first professional contract, marking a significant step in his career.

Throughout his journey, Harper embarked on several loan spells to further develop his skills. His first loan move was to National League North side Gloucester City on July 31, 2019. During his time there, he made 15 league appearances and contributed a goal to the club’s campaign.

Vincent Harper loan deals

On December 10, 2019, Harper embarked on a one-month loan deal with Southern Football League side Weston-super-Mare. Following the conclusion of this loan, he joined Bath City on another loan deal until the end of the season. However, he was recalled on February 21, 2020, after just two appearances.

In August 2021, Harper made a significant move to National League North side Chippenham Town following a successful trial during pre-season. He made his league debut in a triumphant 1-0 victory against Slough Town, impressing fans and management alike.

Just a month into his stint with Chippenham, Harper attracted attention from Eastleigh, and on September 7, 2021, he joined National League side Eastleigh on a permanent deal.

Harper’s journey with Eastleigh was marked by remarkable performances, quickly establishing himself as a regular starter.

His contributions included crucial goals, including a memorable brace against Scunthorpe United, leading Eastleigh to a 2-0 victory. He featured prominently in the following season, making 33 league appearances, and contributed significantly to Eastleigh’s ninth-place finish.

In June 2023, Harper made a notable move to League One side Exeter City on a two-year deal, with an option for an additional third year.

The signing was funded by the 1931 Fund, a dedicated group that raises funds to sign and support players for the season. Harper’s debut for Exeter City saw him replace the injured Demetri Mitchell in a 3-0 victory against Wycombe Wanderers.

What makes Harper’s international journey unique is his eligibility to represent both the Kenya national team and the England national team.

Born in Kenya but raised in England from a young age, he faced a choice of which football association to represent first. In March 2023, Harper was named in Paul Fairclough’s provisional 25-man England C squad and played a full 90 minutes in England C’s 1-0 victory against Wales C.

Throughout his career in England, Harper has amassed an impressive record, playing in 109 matches and scoring six goals.

Currently plying his trade in League One, he has also featured in prestigious competitions such as the League Cup and FA Cup,
