Football Kenya Federation Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia are set to have a grand stadium in the near future, at least according to their deputy patron, Eliud Owalo.

The new stadium is set to be built in Lukenya, Machakos County, and the patron listed amenities that the facility will have.

“As the Deputy Patron of Gor Mahia FC, I have this morning led the management of the club in assessing the suitability of a 48-acre piece of land in Lukenya, next to Daystar University, Machakos County.

“This is for purposes of the construction of the Gor Mahia stadium, club house and other relevant amenities.

“The proposed infrastructure will entail the main stadium with a seating capacity of 60,000 fans, 3 training pitches (for senior, youth, and queens teams), accommodation apartments for players, a 4-star hotel, an indoor gym and convertible gymnasium, club offices, a media centre, a swimming pool, recovery facilities including a sauna, an administration block, a merchandise store, retail outlets, washrooms, and ample parking, among other amenities,” Owalo explained.

The stadium is expected to sit on a 48-acre land.

During the site visit, Owalo was accompanied by Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier, Vice Chairperson Sally Bollo, Secretary General Nicanor Arum, and Treasurer Gerphas Okuku.

“A grand future for Gor Mahia is on the horizon,” the city politician promised.

Although this should be a welcome gesture, some fans questioned the location of the expected new stadium. Some want the stadium built either in Kisumu or in Nairobi, where the majority of K’Ogalo‘s fanbase is domiciled.
