West Pokot County police commander Issa Mohamud has been promoted and named the Western Region commander.

Mohamud replaces Kiprono Langat, who has been transferred to police headquarters, pending deployment.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, has also named the deputy Director of operations at police headquarters, Geoffrey Maiyek, as the new Railways Police commandant.

Mayek replaces Allan Sangoro, who has been moved to police headquarters.

Nairobi’s Gigiri Sub-County commander Wilberforce Sicharani has also been promoted and moved to Nyanza as the deputy RPC. He will deputise the new Nyanza RPC, Gisiri Nyamohanga.

Former Nyanza RPC Patrick Tito was last week moved to police headquarters and named as the principal assistant to DIG Lagat.

The deployment of Mohamud to Western is said to boost security in the region that has witnessed a lot of political violence and crime.

According to the officials, parts of the Western region including Kakamega and Bungoma, have been experiencing political violence.

Goons led by former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, others by former senator Cleophas Malala, and another group by Mumias Member of Parliament Peter Salasya have been causing havoc in the region.

There have also been instances of crimes in Matungu and Kakamega Town amid an outcry, and the new commander has been ordered to deal with the menace.

More changes are expected in the service following the recent promotions by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

On March 13, the NPSC promoted fourteen senior police officers to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG).

The NPSC also promoted a total of 724 senior officers of the ranks between Assistant Superintendent (ASP) and Commissioner of Police (CP).
