Several regions across Kenya are expected to experience continued rainfall this week, with meteorological updates warning of possible heavy downpours and associated risks in multiple parts of the country.

According to the Kenya Met report on April 27, 2026, rainfall will persist in the Highlands, both East and West of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, the broader Rift Valley region, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya.

In some of these areas, intense storms could result in heavy rainfall events, raising concerns over safety and infrastructure.

“Rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of the country, particularly over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, the Rift Valley region, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya,” Kenya Met said.

Possible floods

The Weatherman warned Kenyans of flooding, flash floods, reduced visibility on roads, rising river levels, and increased risk of landslides in hilly areas, including the Aberdare Ranges and Mount Kenya region.

Motorists have also been warned about reduced visibility on roads, increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, rivers across the country may experience rising water levels even in regions not directly receiving heavy rainfall, posing further danger to nearby communities.

Of particular concern are landslides in elevated and hilly regions, including the Aberdare Ranges and Mount Kenya areas. Residents in these zones have been advised to remain vigilant as saturated soils increase the likelihood of earth movements.

“Heavy rainfall events are likely in some areas within these regions, potential impacts and risks, flooding and flash floods, reduced visibility, rising river levels (including in areas not receiving heavy rainfall), increased risk of landslides in hilly areas such as the Aberdare Ranges, Mt. Kenya, and surrounding regions,” Kenya Met noted.

Advise to public

The Department advised residents in the areas earmarked to receive rainfall to avoid walking through moving water and taking shelter under trees or near windows during storms.

On the flip side, Kenya Met warned that some regions will experience fluctuating temperatures, citing very hot days and very cold nights.

“Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in the Coast, the Southeastern lowlands, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya.

“Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the statement continued.
