Wavinya Ndeti warns leaders against divisive statements

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has strongly cautioned political leaders to choose their words carefully, urging them to avoid making remarks that deepen divisions within the country.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Wavinya emphasised the importance of restraint and responsibility in public messaging, especially during these politically sensitive times.
She criticised reckless utterances, saying they only serve to fuel public anger and undermine national unity.
“The politicians are talking too much, let us be mindful of their words. Let us not inflame tensions with reckless utterances,” Wavinya warned.
The vocal governor further urged to remain firm and speak the truth without fear or favour.
“The Church is the voice of reason, it is only you who can help us now. Stand firm as the voice of reason in these times, to speak truth without fear or favour,” she added.

Additionally, Wavinya called on the leaders to unite and ensure the young people are empowered and given opportunities to thrive.
“We need to pray for our young people. Most importantly, we must come together and ensure that our young people are supported, empowered, and given real opportunities to thrive, she urged.
Call for unity
This comes after government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura urged Kenyans to reject divisive language and embrace national unity, emphasising that all citizens are united as one family.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Mombasa County Commissioner’s office on Monday, 9 June 2025.
Mwaura condemned the use of ethnic or regional terms that promote division, describing such narratives as dangerous and harmful to the country’s cohesion.
Addressing reporters, Mwaura stated that Kenya’s strength lies in its diversity and that every Kenyan, regardless of tribe or region, is equal.
“All Kenyans are brothers and sisters. No one should claim closer ties to others based on ethnicity or location,” he said.
He warned that divisive rhetoric risks “balkanising” the nation and undermining the country’s progress.
Mwaura underscored the president’s role as a unifying figure who symbolises national unity and shared development.
“Our development must be inclusive and reach every corner of Kenya,” he added.
The spokesperson appealed to political leaders and citizens alike to avoid language that could deepen ethnic divides and instead focus on building a cohesive society.
