Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will continue working with President William Ruto and support his re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Sunday, June 14, 2026, during a church service in Kajiado County, Wanga said ODM had resolved to cooperate with Ruto, following the path taken by the party’s former leader, the late Raila Odinga.

“As an ODM party, we have decided, as was done by the late Baba, that we are going to work together with you and walk together towards 2027,” Wanga said.

Why Ruto needs a second term

The governor dismissed calls from some political leaders advocating for a one-term presidency for Ruto, arguing that the President deserves a second term.

“You are serving your first term, and you will serve another term. It will be two terms as we move forward. One-term politics should not be the agenda,” she said.

Wanga has also linked Ruto’s political resilience to his faith, noting that his regular church attendance and belief in God would help him overcome political opposition.

Defence on international trips

Wanga has further defended President William Ruto’s international trip, accusing critics of trying to politicise his foreign visit

Wanga argued that the president’s overseas visits are aimed at advancing Kenya’s economic and diplomatic interests and should not be reduced to political talking points.

“Huyu Rais wetu akienda ngambo wanasema ni mbaya…sasa huyu raisi atafanya nii na yeye anafanya maendeleo, anasongesha Kenya mbele,” Wanga stated.

Governor Wanga’s remarks come against a backdrop of sustained public debate and political criticism over the scale and cost of President William Ruto’s international travel since taking office.
