Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

1. Govt’s performance review

The Kenya Kwanza Executive and Parliamentary Group retreat being held in Naivasha, Nakuru County, concludes today after three days of deliberations.

The retreat, which officially began on Monday, February 19, is aimed at reviewing the Kenya Kwanza administration’s scorecard and highlighting key accomplishments since its inauguration in September 2022. 

During yesterday’s session, President William Ruto pledged the government’s commitment to strengthening devolution for enhanced service delivery to the people.

Speaking at the meeting attended by the leadership of the Council of Governors, led by Chairperson Anne Waiguru, the Head of State said the Kenya Kwanza administration is working with all governors, irrespective of their political affiliation, to spur inclusive growth and development.

He acknowledged devolved units as invaluable assets in the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“We view county governments as assets and partners in the delivery of The Plan and the transformation of our country,” he said.

Notably, this is the second meet-up after the inaugural retreat held last year in Nanyuki, Nyeri County.

2. Former EPZA boss in the dock

Richard Mutule Kilonzo, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), is today expected at the Milimani Law Courts for the mention of his Ksh7.71 million corruption case.

Kilonzo is charged with unlawful acquisition of public property, and willful failure to comply with the law applicable to procurement.

The Allegations relate to the acquisition of illegal salary advances totalling Ksh7.71 million.

Preparations for Magical Kenya Open 2024

Preparations are in top gear ahead of the much-awaited Magical Kenya Open professional and amateur tournament which tees off at the Muthaiga Golf Course on Thursday, February 22.

13 golfers, including nine professionals and four amateurs, will be representing Kenya in the event.
