Starehe MP Mwago pens emotional tribute hailing Raila as father of democracy
Starehe MP Amos Mwago has penned an emotional tribute to the late Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as the father of modern democracy and a man whose life shaped Kenya’s political history.
In a heartfelt post shared on X on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Mwago said Raila Odinga was the father of democracy.

He began by honouring Raila as “a true son of the soil whose entire life was defined by courage, resilience, and an unwavering love for Kenya. Mwago noted that Raila’s journey in public life was a story of sacrifice and conviction.
“For decades, he has stood firm on the side of justice, democracy, and freedom, even when the price was personal sacrifice. Through the storms of imprisonment, political betrayal, and national trials, Baba never wavered; instead, he became a beacon of hope for generations,” he wrote.
The first-term legislator praised Raila as more than just a politician, saying he represented the spirit of Kenya’s struggle for a better tomorrow. “Raila Odinga is not just a politician; he is a movement, a living symbol of endurance and faith in a better tomorrow,” Mwago said.
He added that Raila’s vision for a united and fair country had inspired millions, reminding Kenyans that true leadership meant service and courage even in difficult times.
“His vision for a united, equitable Kenya has inspired millions, teaching us that true leadership is service and that patriotism means standing up for what is right even when it is unpopular,” he wrote.

Mwago said Raila’s influence on Kenya’s democratic journey could never be forgotten.
“As we pay tribute to Baba, we salute his indomitable spirit and the countless lives he has touched along his journey. Kenya’s democratic fabric bears his fingerprints, a testament that great leaders are not born for themselves, but for the people they serve,” he added.
Concluding his message, Mwago said Raila will forever be remembered as the people’s champion and the father of modern democracy in Kenya. “Long live Baba Raila Odinga, the people’s champion and the father of modern democracy in Kenya. RIP the father of democracy,” Mwago wrote.
