Senior DCI officer collapses and dies at party

A senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer in Karen collapsed and died on Saturday evening.
Anne Waiganjo was at the farewell party of outgoing Makadara DCI boss Henry Kiambati, who retired from the service last month at a restaurant in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
She arrived at the hotel and collapsed shortly thereafter. She was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
She is said to have complained of chest pains before collapsing. She was the younger sister to Joshua Waiganjo, who was accused of impersonating a senior officer but was later acquitted by the court.
Preliminary reports have not revealed any foul play. The chief inspector had a matter before court where she is said to have married two men, before filing for divorce, contrary to Kenyan laws.
She was married to Inspector David Murimi and David Muchi of Kenya Prisons Service. Records indicate she tied the knot with Muchi in 2009 in church but later married Murimi in 2012 at the Attorney General’s office. At that time, Murimi was also cohabiting with another woman, with whom they had two children. They later separated.
In her defence, the deceased stated that she had parted ways with her first husband, due to verbal and physical abuse.
She had alleged that at one point, she was physically abused and even reported the matter at Kikuyu Police Station but later decided to forgive him because they both work in the service.
Court documents show that Wanjiru filed a divorce and a ruling made on July 3, 2020- that the relationship had broken down and could not be reverted.
After Wanjiru filed for divorce, she experienced endless threats that at some point she contemplated withdrawing the matter from court.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
