Faith Odhiambo appeals to lawyers as 74 protesters head to court
Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo has confirmed that 74 people arrested on Thursday, June 25, 2026, during Gen Z 2024 protests commemorations are expected to be arraigned before the Milimani Magistrates’ Court, where a team of advocates will represent them on a pro bono basis.
In a statement issued on her X handle on Friday, June 26, 2026, Odhiambo said she and other lawyers visited the Central Police Station after receiving information that approximately 74 people were being held following their arrest during the protests.
She said the legal team pushed for the detainees to be presented before a court without unnecessary delay, stressing that every arrested person is entitled to a fair trial and prompt arraignment as guaranteed under the Constitution.
“Early this morning, we attended Central Police Station, where we had information that about 74 people were being held following their arrest during yesterday’s demonstrations. In accordance with their right to a fair trial, we agitated for their arraignment in Court without undue delay. The 74 will be presented before the Magistrates Court in Milimani later today, where a team of advocates are on standby to represent them pro bono,” Faith noted.

According to Odhiambo, the 74 individuals will appear before the Milimani Magistrates’ Court, where a team of volunteer advocates is already on standby to offer them free legal representation.
Call on advocates
The former LSK president has also appealed to advocates who are available around Kibra and Makadara law courts to make themselves available in case other individuals arrested during the demonstrations, whose whereabouts remain unaccounted for, are presented before those courts from different police stations.
“We urge advocates who are available and around Kibra and Makadara Law Courts to avail themselves in the event some unaccounted people are arraigned in these courts from other police stations,” she said.

Her statement comes amid growing scrutiny over the handling of arrests made during the nationwide demonstrations, with human rights groups and legal practitioners calling for adherence to constitutional safeguards, including timely arraignment, access to legal representation, and due process for all those taken into custody.
