Senate to reconvene next week to discuss Waititu impeachment
Senate will reconvene on January 21 to discuss the impeachment motion against Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu, who is also facing corruption charges in court.
This comes after Leader of Majority in the Senate Senator Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) last week petitioned Speaker Kenneth Lusaka to summon a special sitting to consider Waititu’s impeachment.
Murkomen disclosed that he had collected signatures from 15 senators — the minimum number required to call a special sitting — to hear and determine a petition.
Business transacted
In a notice to senators, Lusaka indicated he had appointed Tuesday, January 21, the day for a special sitting of the Senate.
Lusaka said the business to be transacted shall be the hearing of charges against Waititu and consideration of a request for the extension of the tenure of the Ad hoc Committee on Managed Equipment Services (MES).
