President William Ruto has completed his 4-day development tour of the Nyanza Region as he inspected the Lichota Airstrip in Suna West Constituency, Migori County.

In a statement on his official X account on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Ruto confirmed that the Lichota Airstrip has cost the government Ksh280 million.

“We concluded our four-day working tour of the Nyanza counties of Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Siaya with an inspection of Lichota Airstrip in Suna West Constituency, Migori County,” Ruto said.

On his part, the airstrip is a strategic investment aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, including links with neighbouring Tanzania, and boosting tourism to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Worth noting, the Lichota airstrip, which is located about 8.3 kilometres from Migori town, is considered an important facility as it serves as a link between Kenya and Tanzania.

“We thank residents for their continued support of our broad-based government and reaffirm our commitment to delivering on our promises,” he added.

President Ruto kicked off his 4-day development tour of the Nyanza region on Friday, March 20, 2026, to commission numerous development projects across the four counties of Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya.

President Ruto has embarked on a four-day development tour of the region with the launch of the Kisumu–Malaba SGR (Phase 2C) project by William Ruto and his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni, at Kisumu East Sub-County, being the defining moment.

The Head of State also hosted elected leaders from Nyanza at the Kisumu State Lodge, where sources privy to the meeting said they engaged in discussions over ongoing projects and those in the region.
