Ruto appoints Raila’s nephew Jaoko as advisor

President William Samoei Ruto has appointed Jaoko Oburu Odinga Special Advisor on Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods.
The appointment signals a renewed push to strengthen inclusive development across the country.
In a statement, Jaoko expressed gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve Kenyans at a national level.
“I take this opportunity to express my deepest thanks to His Excellency, Hon. William Samoei Ruto, for granting me the honour to serve the people of Kenya in this critical role. I am humbled by the confidence he has placed in me,” he said.
He also thanked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for fostering a collaborative national environment that encourages unity across political and regional lines.
“I am grateful to the Prime Minister for showing his faith in me and for creating a conducive environment where Kenyans from all walks of life can come together for the sake of national development.” Said Jaoko.
He acknowledged this response with appreciation, calling it “overwhelming” and “deeply encouraging.”
As he began his tenure, the Special Advisor stressed on his long-standing passion for economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, describing the new role as a natural extension of his life’s work.
“Economic empowerment has always been my passion. In this assignment, I feel like a fish in water. With God’s guidance and provision, I am committed to delivering tangible outcomes for our country and contributing to the greater African development agenda.”
He further assured stakeholders and members of the public that preparations are underway to establish his office and streamline operations.
“To those who have contacted me with urgent matters — within and outside my mandate — I ask for your patience as we finalize the setup of the advisory office. I will be reaching out soon.” Said Jaoko.
The adviser’s appointment is seen as part of President Ruto’s broader development agenda and efforts to unite all Kenyans, which places significant emphasis on job creation, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable economic practices.
He is a former Siaya County Executive Committee member for Roads and Public Works under former Governor Cornel Rasanga.
He has also served as Investments and Resource Mobilisation Adviser for Siaya County between 2013 and 2022.
Jaoko was the chairperson of the Global Chair of Friends of Baba Africa (FOBA), a lobby group that was campaigning for Rail to become the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.
