President William Ruto has stated that his administration is committed to transforming Kenya from a debt-ridden economy into a nation that can stand among the world’s strongest.

Speaking on Sunday, August 31, 2015, during a church service at St. Peter’s ACK Cathedral in Siaya County, the president said Kenya is already making progress by investing billions in the health sector without relying on foreign loans. He said the country’s resources, if properly managed with courage and focus, can transform Kenya into a first-world nation.

“We are committing and spending billions in health; money that we haven’t borrowed from anybody, money that we got from our own resources. Just imagine what we can do if we have a plan, if we have focus, if we have courage. We can change this nation in a very fundamental way.” Ruto told the congregation.

The president challenged leaders across the political divide to join hands in driving reforms that will end the culture of dependency on debt and corruption. According to him, the new trajectory of governance requires boldness, honesty, and accountability in handling public resources.

“I want to ask MCAs, MPs and Governors, let us work together. We will stop borrowing, we will stop being in the third world. We can move this country into the first world. Are you our leaders ready?” Ruto posed.

Passion to drive transformation

The Head of State stated that he is driven by a vision of a transformed Kenya that can offer better opportunities for its citizens without compromising its future. He expressed optimism that with collective effort and discipline, the nation could leave behind decades of economic stagnation.

“I have passion and I can see the future, I see a different Kenya,” Ruto said.

The President’s remarks come against the backdrop of debates on debt sustainability and the government’s push for domestic revenue collection. His administration has been under pressure over the rising cost of living, but Ruto insisted that sacrifice and long-term reforms were necessary to lay the foundation for prosperity.

In his Siaya visit, the President emphasised that development is not a partisan affair but a national duty. He called for unity among leaders to ensure resources reach citizens in an accountable manner.

“This country belongs to all of us. It is not about where you come from or which party you support. It is about ensuring our children inherit a country that is stable, prosperous and free from debt dependency,” he added.
