Rugby Africa Men’s 7s: Shujaa’s captain Ojwang reiterates title ambitions

Kenya Morans skipper Christant Ojwang has laid down the team’s ambitions of bringing home the 2025 Rugby Africa 7s Men’s Cup.
Speaking after edging Nigeria 43-12 on Sunday, June 22, 2025, to continue their good start, Ojwang was quick to rally the team for the task ahead, urging for more focus and unity.
Kenya’s next face-off is against Madagascar, with a place in the final at stake.
“Congratulations to the boys. It was not a walkover, and our focus now shifts to the semis against Madagascar. We now regroup and focus on a game at a time,” he stated.

The skipper says they remain determined to reclaim the title they won in 2023.
“The ultimate goal of the team is to win the tournament. We have to improve and see what the next opponents bring,” he said.
The victory against Nigeria saw the team led by coach Kisia extend their fine run in the championship preliminary stage in Pool A against Ghana, Uganda, and the Ivory Coast.
Impressive start
The Kenya Morans launched their 2025 Rugby Africa 7s Men’s Cup campaign in emphatic style on Saturday, June 21, 2025, with a commanding victory over Ivory Coast at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius.
In the clash, a contingent of Shujaa players led by Dennis Abukuse and Floyd Wabwile came in handy as Kenya headed into the break with a healthy 19-0 lead.

Morans extended the fine start to the second group clash, whitewashing in a 30-0 hiding before wrapping their unblemished record in the group with a 12-5 victory over Uganda.
This year’s edition, held in Mauritius, brought together Africa’s top rugby sevens teams in a battle for supremacy, with Kenya eyeing nothing less than the crown.
In sentiments mirroring Ojwang’s remarks, coach Kisia had also voiced Kenya’s targets ahead of the tournament, making it clear: they’re not just here to participate; they’re here to win it back.
