Raila Odinga Jr. has taken up the matter of addressing the persistent water problem in the Kibra constituency, following up on his earlier promise to the residents.

The son of the late ODM leader led a delegation of Kibra grassroots leaders for a meeting with the Nairobi City County officials on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the City Hall.

According to the Lindi MCA, Robert Jera, Raila Jnr, who was also joined by the Kamkunji Pressure Group members, held discussions with the county water and sewerage chief officer, Oscar Omoke, who unsuccessfully vied for the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat.

Kibra Water shortage

“Earlier today, Raila Odinga Jr. led some Nairobi County elected leaders, opinion shapers, and Kibra Kamkunji Pressure Group members in a consultative meeting with the Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Ministry, led by Chief Officer Oscar Omoke and MD Martin Nangole, to address Kibra’s water shortage,” part of MCA Jera’s statement read.

Seeking solutions

“Following our productive engagement with the Kamukunji Pressure Group last Sunday—where water shortages were a major concern—we are making steady progress on our commitments. We agreed on concrete, actionable measures to address the ongoing water shortages in the area. However, a collaborative political solution involving broader Kibera leadership would significantly boost the success of these interventions.”

“As affirmed by the United Nations, access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right. We remain committed to delivering lasting solutions for our communities,” he stated.

Other leaders who attended the meeting were the Lindi MCA and Nairobi ODM vice chair Jerah, Ketta Onyango, Laini Saba MCA Kaende, Daniel Okoth Owino, Kamkunji Pressure Group chair Wycliffe Odero alias Jayalo, and the Kamkunji Pressure Group organiser, among other leaders.
