A public memorial service for the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho, will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Ol Kalou Stadium.

According to a statement by the Parliament of Kenya on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the service will allow constituents and members of the public to pay their last respects to the third-term legislator, even as his family upholds his wish not to have a public viewing of his body.

Speaking at the Parliament, the Chairperson of the Ad-Hoc Funeral Organising Committee and Kinangop MP, Kwenya Thuku, said the decision was reached in consultation with the family to honour the late MP’s legacy and connection with the people.

“Kiaraho was a third-time MP, meaning he is a man of the people. Therefore, in consultation with the family, a resolution has been made to have a public memorial service for him in Ol Kalou Stadium next Wednesday,” Kwenya said.

Decisions of the planning committee

The resolution followed a planning meeting held at Parliament Buildings between the parliamentary committee and members of the late MP’s family, led by former MP Lewis Nguyai, who chairs the family’s planning committee.

Kwenya further revealed that the National Assembly, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, will facilitate the airlifting of the late legislator’s body to Ol Kalou on the day of the memorial service to enable leaders and members of the public to attend.

“The National Assembly shall, in consultation with the Ministry of Interior, undertake to ensure that the body of Kiaraho is airlifted to Ol Kalou on Wednesday, 8, where there shall be a funeral service attended by leaders and all interested members of the Public,” Kwenya noted.

Strict guidelines

However, the casket will remain closed during the service in line with the late Kiaraho’s wishes and family tradition.

The burial is scheduled for Friday, April 10, at his Tigoni farm in Limuru, where a final memorial service will be held the same morning at St. Andrew’s Church in Nairobi before the interment.

Meanwhile, the family will hold a vigil at the late MP’s rural home in Ol Kalou on Sunday, April 5, as part of activities to celebrate his life.

They are also expected to spend the Easter weekend at their Ol Kalou residence ahead of the final send-off.

Kiaraho died at around 1:20 am on Sunday, March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, following a prolonged illness. He had been in and out of the hospital in recent months, seeking medical attention both locally and abroad.
