Police officers from the Migori County Police Headquarters and the Maragua Police Station have conducted a multicounty operation leading to the arrest of two individuals.

In a statement by the National Police Service on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the officers also confirmed a recovery of bhang and other contraband in separate anti-narcotics and illicit brew operations in Migori and Murang’a counties.

“Police officers have arrested two suspects and recovered cannabis sativa (bhang), illicit alcohol, and other contraband in separate anti-narcotics and illicit brew operations in Migori and Murang’a counties,” NPS said.

In the statement, officers from Migori County Police Headquarters, while on mobile patrol in Migori Township, raided the Pandi area, a raid that led to the successful arrest of one person of interest.

At the time of the arrest, officers recovered at least 358 rolls, 30 grams of unprocessed cannabis, seven packets of uncustomised cigarettes, and 1.5 litres of chang’aa.

“During the operation, officers recovered suspected narcotic substances believed to be cannabis sativa (bhang), including 358 rolls, 30 grams of unprocessed cannabis, seven packets of uncustomed Super Match cigarettes, and 1.5 litres of chang’aa,” NPS stated.

Murang’a operation

In a separate operation in Murang’a County, police officers from Maragua Police Station, who were conducting foot patrols in the Mbombo area, apprehended a female linked to the trafficking of narcotic drugs.

At the time, the officers recovered 118 rolls of bhang wrapped in a black polythene bag and cash amounting to Ksh1,235, which officers say was suspected to be proceeds from the illegal trade.

Meanwhile, according to the National Police Service, both persons of interest were taken into police custody pending arraignment in court, while the recovered exhibits were preserved as investigations continue.

“The National Police Service commends the officers involved in the operations for their vigilance and continued efforts in combating narcotics trafficking and illicit brews,” NPS said.

On the other hand, members of the public have been encouraged to continue sharing information on criminal activities and drug trafficking through the nearest police station
