Murang’a County Senator Joe Nyutu has condemned President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja following a dramatic disruption at a Sunday church service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking to congregants at PCEA Mwiki, Kasarani East Parish, Nyutu did not hold back his fury. He said that what had taken place in the church was a disgrace and an insult to God, especially if it was politically motivated.

Addressing the president directly, Nyutu reminded him of the painful history of the Kiambaa church tragedy, the deaths of Gen Z protesters, and the betrayal of those who supported his rise to power.

“Lazima tulaani kitendo cha aibu sana ambacho kimetendeka kanisani humu hii leo. Na mimi nataka niambie rais wetu kwa heshima sana kwamba watu walichomeka katika kanisa kule kwenu Kiambaa, watoto wetu wamekufa, watoto wa Gen Z. Umefuta wale walio kusaidia kwa uchaguzi,” he said.

Loosely translated as:

“We must condemn the very shameful act that has taken place here in church today. And I want to respectfully tell our president that people were burned in a church over there in your home area, Kiambaa; our children died, the Gen Z children. You have dismissed those who helped you during the election.”

He went further to declare that if Ruto and Sakaja were involved in the chaos, then their leadership was already spiritually condemned.

“Uongozi wenu mungu amesema ‘mene mene tekel’ kwa sababu huwezi fanya ivo kwa kanisa ambalo tunamwabudu mwenyezi mungu ati kwa sababu Gachagua amekuja apa,” he added.

Loosely translated as:

“Your leadership, God has said ‘mene mene tekel’ because you cannot do that to a church where we worship the Almighty God just because Gachagua has come here,” he added.

Nyutu, a staunch supporter of the former DP, also praised ODM leader Raila Odinga for learning to read the mood on the ground and for avoiding unnecessary conflict. He urged Ruto to learn from both Raila and Gachagua.

The fiery senator noted that Gachagua had remained calm during his visits to Mt Kenya and had not stirred any trouble, unlike what had just unfolded.

Nataka kupongeza Raila vile amejifunza kutoka kwa Gachagua kusikiza ground. Alisikiliza Kisii penye walisema ‘Ruto must go’, wiki iliyofuata hakuja na Ruto Nairobi. Sasa naomba Ruto ajifunze na Gachagua, Umekuja mlimani, Gachagua hajasema lolote, hatukukuvuruga, jifunze na Riggy G,” Nyutu stated.

Loosely translated as:

“I want to commend Raila for learning from Gachagua how to listen to the ground. He listened to Kisii, where people said ‘Ruto must go,’ and the following week he didn’t come to Nairobi with Ruto. Now I ask Ruto to learn from Gachagua: You came to the mountain, Gachagua didn’t say anything, we didn’t disturb you, learn from Riggy G.”

Chaos

Earlier, the church service was thrown into disarray when a group of armed goons stormed in to cause chaos. Videos shared by local media showed the tense moments as Gachagua’s security team quickly moved to neutralize the threat.

Gunshots were fired into the air as security officers tried to restore order. The noise and panic caused worshippers to scream, while others rushed out of the church, fearing for their lives.

In the chaos, several plastic chairs were broken, and some of Gachagua’s vehicles were vandalized with rocks, leaving visible damage. A video shared on Facebook by user @Mwangi Maina captured the moment some of the intruders were being dragged out through the church gate, as congregants watched in shock.

Despite the dramatic interruption, calm was eventually restored, and the service resumed with a sermon by a local reverend.
