Nyamu: I have taken over as Nairobi senator
Nominated senator Karen Nyamu now says she has taken over the role of Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.
Speaking during a wildlife event held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, Nyamu stated that she was slowly ‘replacing’ the senator because he had ‘abandoned’ his duties.
She also accused Sifuna of being too focused on the anti-government protests, neglecting his mandated roles as the senator.
“We elected a senator who is busy with maandamano so I have taken over the job that he was elected to do cause he should be in such a critical occassion right?” she posed.
The controversial senator was recently nominated as a senator in the 2022 General Election after President William Ruto won the presidential election.
At the time, the senator was also elected as Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Relations.
Prior to that, Nyamu had stepped aside for Bishop Margaret Wanjir to represent United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Nairobi Senatorial position.
However, Wanjiru lost to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM’s) Edwin Sifuna.
Before that, Nyamu had been appointed as the director f Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company after she lost the 2017 Nairobi Women Representative election to Rachel Shebesh.
