Nairobi Water announces 6-day outage in major city estates
The Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced that the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) will shut down the Northern Collector Tunnel 1 (NCT1) System to finalise critical infrastructure upgrades, leading to a six-day water supply interruption.
In a public notice on April 3, 2026, the water company noted that the interruption is scheduled to begin at 6:00 am on Monday, April 6, 2026, and is expected to last until 6:00 am on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

“Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) will shut down the Northern Collector Tunnel 1 (NCT1) System, to operationalise and satisfactorily conclude all contractual scope of works for the Kigoro WTP to Gigiri Reservoirs to Kabete Reservoirs. This is scheduled to take place between 6:00 am on Monday, 06 April 2026, and 6:00 am Saturday, 11 April 2026,” read the notice.
Areas affected
According to the notice, the estates and areas that will be affected by the disruption include: Riverside, Parklands, Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Mamlaka line, Valley road, Hurlingham, Kilimani, Kawangware, Dagoretti, Uthiru Jamhuri, Upper Hill, Kibera, Highrise, Nairobi West, Lang’ata, Karen, and South B, South C, Imara Daima, and Tassia.
Others are: Ngara, Gigiri, UNEP, US Embassy, Eastleigh, Buruburu phases 3 and 4, Gikomba, Pumwani, Shauri Moyo, Mathare North, GSU, Huruma, Ngumba, Thome, Survey, Safari Park and Baba Dogo and Industrial area.

The supply will also be interrupted at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and for customers along Mamlaka line, Valley Road, Argwings Kodhek Road from Chaka Road to Hurlingham, Hurlingham Shopping Centre, Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road and Coptic Hospital, all within Kilimani and its environs.
Parts of Dagoretti and Kabiria will also be affected, including Lower Gitanga Road, sections of Kawangware, Sunset Estate, Sohill City estates, Kagira Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Upper Waithaka, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market, and Mariguini.
Western and Southern parts of Nairobi
In the western and southern parts of the city, the outage will cover Uthiru Muthua, Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini, Gatina, Bishop Magua area, Kabarnet Road, parts of Joseph Kang’ethe Road, Muchai Drive from Ngong Road to Mbaruk Road, Jamhuri Estate, Upper Hill, Kenyatta National Hospital, KEMRI offices, Highview estates, Kenyatta Market, and nearby areas.
The disruption will extend to areas around Kinoo Road and Joseph Kang’ethe junction, including Togo Flats and Kang’ethe Greens, as well as Lang’ata neighbourhoods such as Southlands Estate, Madaraka, Hima Gardens, Siwaka, Akila Two, Rangers Court, Leeban, and Nairobi West Shopping Centre.
Residents in Lang’ata South and Karen will also experience supply cuts, covering Bogani East Road, Muiri Lane, Forest Edge, Mukinduri, Muricho, Mukoma, Kisembe East, Magadi Road, Ndorobo, Kikeni, Ndovu, Kifaru, Tandara, Mutamaiyu, Mundenderu, Korongo, Swara Lodge area, Quere Lane, and sections between Bogani East Road and Ushirika.

The outage will further affect May East, Dalat, Royale, Kuwinda Road, Kufuga Road, Koitobos, Twiga Hill, Ushirika Maasai West, Hardy, Milima, Simba Hill, Giraffe Centre, Tumbili, Macushla, Bogani Road, Nzohe, Kasuku, Kwarara, Silanga Road, Kumbe Road, Comboni, and Mbagathi Ridge.
In the central and eastern parts of the city, the Central Business District (CBD), areas along Mombasa Road, South B and South C estates, Mater Hospital, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Athi River Export Processing Zone, Coca Cola facilities, Mukuru, Imara Daima, industries and estates along North Airport Road, Embakasi Village and Tassia Estate will also be affected.
Other areas listed include Ngara, Forest Road, Desai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, Murang’a Road, Park Road, Gigiri, Whispers Avenue, Village Market, UNEP and the US Embassy.
