MP Ngogoyo calls for probe into rising unexplained deaths nationwide
Kajiado North Member of Parliament (MP) Onesmus Ngogoyo has called for a sweeping investigation into what he describes as a troubling pattern of unexplained deaths nationwide.
The legislator’s demand comes as forensic teams continue to exhume and examine a mass grave containing 33 bodies in Makaburini Cemetery, Kericho County, a site that has become the epicentre of a widening scandal involving the mishandling of unclaimed bodies, even as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had earlier dismissed the claims.
Speaking during an interview on a local TV station on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Ngogoyo linked the Kericho incident to a broader crisis of unexplained fatalities across the country.
“A lot of people have been found dead in this administration compared to others,” Ngogoyo stated, his voice heavy with concern,” he said.

“Due diligence must be carried out, as this case raises serious concerns. The victims could be children killed in Meru due to banditry or in the North Rift. To end speculation, the government must act swiftly and clarify any link between Nyamira and Kericho.”
The DCI’s Homicide Directorate has since assumed control of the case, dispatching officers to Nyamira to interrogate a chain of individuals involved in the handling and transportation of the bodies.
Those questioned include public health officers, drivers, escorts, and the cemetery caretaker.
The Kericho saga
The grim saga began when two gravediggers, aged 23 and 26, walked into Kericho Police Station on Saturday, March 21, 2026, to report a disturbing sequence of events at the public cemetery. Their tip-off triggered an immediate response, leading to the exhumation of 14 bodies on Tuesday, March 24.
That number has since more than doubled, with officials now confirming that 33 bodies, including 25 children, have been recovered.
Investigators also found six dismembered body parts, comprising both upper and lower limbs.

The investigation took a pivotal turn on March 22, when the DCI shifted its focus to probe the transfer of 13 unclaimed bodies from Nyamira County.
Authorities are now scrutinising whether a systemic failure allowed human remains to be transported across county lines without proper oversight before ending up in a mass grave in Kericho East Sub-County.
With the number of child victims alarmingly high and the discovery of dismembered limbs, MP Ngogoyo has said the situation demands a national response.
“The government must end the speculation. We need transparency and swift action to ensure that whatever happened in Kericho does not remain an isolated mystery but is addressed as the national crisis it appears to be,” he reiterated.
Investigations are ongoing, with detectives promising a thorough inquiry into what is now one of the most disturbing forensic cases in recent Kenyan history after the Shakahola massacre.
