Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, opened up about an encounter with a distressed mother who walked to his office crying for help for her daughter trapped in Oman.

Taking to his X account on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Mosiria revealed that the woman walked up to him all the way from Nyakach, accompanied by her other daughter.

“Today, this distressed mother walked into my office all the way from Nyakach, accompanied by her sister, seeking help for her daughter, “Mosiria said.

According to Mosiria, the mother narrated how the daughter ended up in Oman with an agency that promised her a better opportunity in a foreign country.

However after working in Oman for sometime, the daughter reportedly got unwell and is said to have developed a mental health condition.

According to Mosiria, the Mother described her daughter’s current situation as quite worse.

“Her daughter had been taken to Oman for domestic work through an agency that promised her better opportunities abroad. After working for some time, she reportedly fell ill and was later said to have developed a mental health condition. Currently, she is in a very bad state,” Mosiria said.

He went on explaining that the family has made numerous attempts to bring her back seeking assistance from the agency.

However, according to the mother, the agency has been unresponsive and unwilling to help, leaving the family with no other option.

“The family has made several attempts to reach the recruitment agency to seek assistance and agree on how to bring her back home, but the agency has been rude, unresponsive, and unwilling to help. Left with no option, the mother pleaded with me to intervene and help bring her daughter back safely,” Mosiria said.

“I immediately reached out to an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who advised that the family visit their office for further support and arrangements to facilitate her safe return home,” he added.

“Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. I continue to encounter many heartbreaking stories of Kenyans being duped by unscrupulous agencies that promise greener pastures abroad, only for our people to face suffering, exploitation, and neglect. When problems arise, these agents disappear or refuse to take responsibility,” Mosiria added.

On his part, Mosiria has called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene and have her brought back home to her family.

“I call upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant authorities to urgently crack down on such rogue agencies and strengthen protections for Kenyans seeking work abroad. Our people deserve dignity, safety, and accountability,” Mosiria explained.
