Mosiria announces cash reward to curb public litter bins theft in Nairobi estates
Nairobi County’s Head of Customer Care Department, Geoffrey Mosiria, has announced a Ksh50,000 cash reward in a move aimed at cracking down on the theft of newly installed public litter bins in Nairobi estates, following the discovery that many of them have been stolen and sold to scrap metal dealers in the city.
While inspecting several estates to assess the status of the bins on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Mosiria, who initially led the Environment Docket at City Hall, said he was shocked to learn that facilities meant to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility had disappeared only weeks after being installed.
Waste management
According to his statement shared via X on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Mosiria revealed that the litter bins were provided by the County Government of Nairobi after requests from residents seeking to improve waste management in their neighbourhoods.
“This is unacceptable and shameful,” Mosiria said, noting that the individuals behind the thefts are well known within the communities, yet some residents have chosen to remain silent and protect them. He described the acts as outright sabotage of public efforts to keep estates clean and dignified.

To curb the growing impunity, Mosiria has offered to handsomely reward anyone who provides credible information leading to the identification and arrest of scrap metal dealers buying the stolen bins, as well as the individuals stealing them.
Lucrative cash reward
”Let it be clearly known: this is public property, our property. We will not allow a few individuals to sabotage efforts aimed at keeping our neighbourhoods clean. I am hereby offering a cash reward of Ksh 50,000 to anyone who will provide credible information leading to the identification and arrest of any scrap metal dealer buying these stolen litter bins, as well as the individuals stealing them.” Mosiria said.
He further warned those involved in the illegal trade, declaring that their days are numbered. Mosiria vowed that the county, working with law enforcement agencies, will pursue, arrest, and ensure that all culprits face the full force of the law.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Mosiria’s effort to restore Nairobi city’s dignity comes at a time when the national government, led by President William Ruto, has renewed its effort to elevate the country to achieve a first-world appearance.
