Moses Kuria offers to buy a torch to be buried with Jirongo
Former President William Ruto’s economic adviser Moses Kuria has offered to buy a torch should it be necessary for the late Cyrus Jirongo to be buried with one so that it may haunt his killers.
While speaking during the requiem mass held at CITAM Valley Road on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Moses Kuria called for a thorough investigation into the inconsistencies surrounding Jirongo’s death, arguing that conducting a comprehensive investigation does not presume guilt on anyone.
“We need to have a thorough investigation into anything questionable. It does not presume guilt on anyone to have a thorough investigation. I will offer to buy the torch,” Kuria said.
Moses Kuria is not the only politician and ally of Jirongo who has called for the late leader to be buried with a torch. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya also recently suggested that Jirongo should be buried with one.

“Na mimi naambia Watiriki, kwa sababu Mtiriki mtu wao akikufa kwa njia ambayo haijulikani, wanazikwa na torch. Hiyo torch inawekwa makaa na inamulika, inaenda kuwamulika wale ambao walimaliza marehemu.”
“Wakati inazima, yule aliua pia anazima. Tunazika Jirongo, lakini tunazika na torch. Aki ya Mungu, kama kuna mtu aliguza Jirongo, ataenda,” Natembeya said.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has equally echoed the same sentiments, saying that the late leader should be buried with a torch, adding that by the time the torch goes off, Jirongo’s killer would also meet his end.
Khaniri’s concerns
During the requiem mass, leaders and friends of the deceased raised concerns over inconsistencies surrounding his death, which occurred following a tragic road accident.
George Khaniri, a close friend of the late who was with him in his final moments and who retrieved his body from the scene and took it to Lee Funeral Home, questioned why the Mercedes-Benz E350 in which Jirongo was travelling, said by experts to be fitted with up to 12 airbags, did not deploy even a single airbag to save his life.
He also questioned why the other passengers who were on board have not come forward to give their testimony on what transpired and led to Jirongo’s death.
Martha Karua’s concerns
Martha Karua, who was also present during the solemn ceremony, called for speedy investigations to unravel what might have led to Jirongo’s death.

According to her, in his final days, Jirongo had been seeking to beef up his security after expressing fears for his life.
Similar suggestions of being buried with a torch were also raised during the funeral of the late businessman Jacob Juma, who was gunned down by assassins in Nairobi. In his case, some members of his community suggested that his body be treated with herbs so that his killers would never find peace.
