Moses Kuria dismisses claims he is hospitalised

By , January 5, 2026

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has firmly rejected claims that he is hospitalised, accusing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of spreading false information through supporters.

Kuria posted the denial on his X account on 5 January 2026.

“Dear Rigathi Gachagua. You have sent your fake lapdogs to spread propaganda that I am in hospital. Sorry to disappoint you,” he said.

Rumours about Kuria’s hospitalisation had circulated on social media earlier that day, with several accounts sharing photos claiming a famous blogger had visited him in hospital. Kuria responded swiftly, dismissing the claims as a deliberate attempt to silence his questions.

Kuria battles Gachagua’s influence

Kuria leads the Chama Cha Kazi party and often criticises Gachagua’s influence in the region. He previously served in President William Ruto’s government, including as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, before stepping down.

The two politicians trade barbs frequently. Gachagua has repeatedly labelled Chama Cha Kazi and similar small parties as “wheelbarrows”. He argues they serve to split Mt Kenya votes and weaken the region’s unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

This “wheelbarrow” narrative has sparked sharp responses from Kuria in the past. The latest flare-up links directly to events at a funeral in Murang’a County on January 3, 2026.

Kuria accused Gachagua of masterminding the disruption of Marubu after she spoke her political views in support of President Ruto, prompting heckling and jeering from the crowd.

He described the former deputy president as “a coward, a despot and a dangerous man.”

“From today prepare for battle royale. You have crossed the red line.” He vowed direct confrontation.

“Ni mimi na wewe going forward... You are more dangerous than William Ruto,” Kuria declared.

At the same funeral, Gachagua dismissed parties like Kuria’s as “wheelbarrows”. He urged Mt Kenya unity to maintain strong national bargaining power.
