Mohammed Ali warns against attempts to interfere with the Magarini by-election
Nyali Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammed Ali has claimed there is a plot to interfere with the Magarini Constituency by-election on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Taking to X on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the legislator said there is credible information suggesting that there are plans underway to interfere with the anticipated exercise. Ali put Mombasa County Governor Abdulswammad Nassir at the centre of the plot.
Voter interference in Magarini
”We have credible information suggesting that there are plans underway to interfere with the anticipated Magarini by-elections. @A_S_Nassir, we are fully aware that you have brought over 4 presiding officers and 30 inspectorates and tasked them with messing up the elections,” the MP claimed.
The lawmaker has also asked Magarini locals to eject non-locals as the area heads to the ballot to choose their next representative in the National Assembly.
”We are watching you and your allies very closely and will remain firm in making sure that the elections are NOT tampered with. The people of Magarini must stay alert and keep out any intruders in their town. The will of the people cannot be defied! Watu wa Magarini, pigieni kura STANLEY KENGA na msisahau kula pesa za bure mkipewa na hao wabakaji wa demokrasia,” he added.
Ali’s claims come after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, wrote to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Erastus Edung Ethokon, linking IEBC Vice Chairperson Fahima Araphat Abdallah to voter interference in Magarini.
In his letter dated Monday, November 24, 2025, to Ethokon, the former Deputy President claimed that Abdallah had assumed roles outside her mandate and employed corrupt and covert methods to influence the election in favour of a preferred candidate.

Gachagua raises alarm
The former deputy president claimed that Abdallah travelled to Magarini on November 21, 2025, where she intimidated and coerced electoral officials. According to Gachagua, she demanded a full list and contacts of all presiding officers in the constituency.
“Be informed, should it not be within your knowledge, that on Friday 21st November 2025, your Vice Chairperson, Fahima Araphat Abdallah, OGW, was in Magarini, where she bullied, intimidated and coerced the electoral officials manning the Magarini by-elections,” Gachagua stated.
However, IEBC Chairman Erastus Ethokon has addressed the widespread claims of voter bribery ahead of the by-elections. Speaking in a local TV interview on Tuesday night, November 25, 2025, Erastus Edung Ethokon said the Commission has not received any formal complaint from aspirants regarding the reports. He asked aggrieved parties to follow the stipulated procedure and formally raise the matter.
