The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified a nationwide crackdown on illicit brews and narcotics, leading to the arrest of several persons of interest and the seizure of cannabis, chang’aa and other contraband in coordinated multi-agency operations across Nyamira, Murang’a and Kisumu counties.

According to a statement by the National Police Service on Sunday, July 5, 2026, the operations, conducted over the past 48 hours in collaboration with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), targeted the production, trafficking and sale of illegal drugs and illicit alcohol.

“Over the past 48 hours, coordinated operations in Nyamira, Murang’a and Kisumu counties have led to the arrest of several notorious drug peddlers and the recovery of various contraband items,” NPS stated.

Crackdown per county

In Nyamira County, officers from Nyamusi Police Station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided a homestead in Kegogi Village, Bokeira Location, where they arrested one person of interest and recovered 44.5 rolls of cannabis sativa.

In Murang’a County, officers from Kenol Police Station, working jointly with NGAO officers during a night operation in Upper Kangangu on July 3, intercepted an alleged drug peddler and seized 80 rolls of bhang, a rolling flag, rizzler papers, and Ksh750 believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Meanwhile, in Kisumu County, officers from Ratta Police Station raided Barkorwa Kanyamburi Village in Seme Sub-County on the morning of July 4, arresting one person in possession of 15 litres of illicit chang’aa, eight packets of uncustomed Super Match cigarettes and eight rolls of bhang.

Those arrested

Police said all those arrested remain in custody pending processing and arraignment in court, while the recovered narcotics and illicit substances have been secured as exhibits.

“All persons of interest have been placed in police custody, pending processing and arraignment in court, while the narcotics and illicit substances recovered have been securely kept as exhibits. The targeted crackdowns will continue nationwide,” NPS noted.

The National Police Service further commends members of the public for their continued cooperation and timely sharing of information, which remains vital in ridding communities of illegal drugs and substance abuse.
