Police officers have apprehended a person of interest linked to phone snatching incidents in Majengo, Nairobi.

The person of interest was intercepted on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, during a routine patrol by officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station.

Police recovered a toy pistol, a mobile phone and 152 rolls of a substance identified as cannabis sativa. The person of interest was placed in police custody awaiting processing and presentation in court.

Phone and Ksh3,000 taken

“Yesterday, 22nd July 2026, officers based at Shauri Moyo Police Station in Buruburu Sub-County, while conducting a routine patrol within the Majengo slums, apprehended a notorious suspect linked to a series of muggings in the Nairobi East Sub-Region,” the National Police Service (NPS) statement said.

“The suspect was intercepted while violently robbing a member of the public and had already forcefully taken the victim’s mobile phone and KSh 3,000 in cash,” the statement added.

The recovered mobile phone is believed to belong to the person who was robbed during the incident.

Police did not disclose whether the Ksh3,000 was recovered during the operation.

Toy pistol and cannabis recovered

“Following a thorough search of the suspect, the officers recovered a toy pistol, a mobile phone and 152 rolls of cannabis sativa,” the NPS statement said.

“He was placed in police custody, pending processing and arraignment in court, and the items recovered have been securely kept as exhibits,” police added.

NPS said it remained committed to combating crime across the country and urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers.

“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating criminality county-wide. We urge members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement officers to ensure safety and security for all,” the statement said.
