Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Planned protests at Kindiki’s residence

Former Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) board chairperson Irungu Nyakera is expected to lead a procession to Karen on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, to reclaim the office of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which he claims was unlawfully seized.

He shared a statement on Monday, May 12, 2025, announcing plans to lead the protests.

In his post, Nyakera emphasised that Gachagua, democratically elected during Kenya’s August 9, 2022, general election, had been unjustly ousted from his rightful office.

“H.E. Rigathi Gachagua was duly and democratically elected on August 9, 2022. His removal from office, therefore, subverted the sovereign will of the Kenyan people who elected him,” Nyakera wrote, asserting that this event was a direct challenge to the democratic process and constitutional order.

Nyakera has framed the procession as a crucial constitutional correction, rather than merely a political protest.

“This is not just a political statement but a constitutional correction,” he declared, calling on citizens, civil society, media, and international observers to join the peaceful movement.

The procession will begin with an international press conference at Chester House, a well-known landmark in Nairobi, where Nyakera is expected to provide further details on the legal and political rationale behind the action.

EU-Kenya business forum

The 2nd edition of the EU-Kenya Business Forum is expected to come to a close on Tuesday May 13, 2025. The two-day event was officially opened by President William Ruto on Monday, May 12, 2025, where he promised to support the expansion of business in the country.

On Tuesday, Finland’s president, who is in Kenya for a state visit, is expected to address the forum.

Jointly organised by the EU Delegation, EU Member States embassies, and key Kenyan stakeholders, the forum will bring together high-level policymakers, private sector leaders, innovators, and development partners to explore how digital transformation can enhance trade efficiency, increase market access, and promote sustainable and inclusive growth.

The objective of the forum is to strengthen EU-Kenya trade and investment by leveraging digital transformation as a catalyst for enhancing trade efficiency, increasing market access, and promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.

By focusing on digitalisation, the forum aims to equip businesses in both regions with the knowledge and tools to leverage technology for greater competitiveness and inclusivity in the global marketplace.

The event will also mark the official launch of the EuroCham: a network of EU and Kenyan companies operating in Kenya. In addition to serving as a platform for exchange between existing and potential EU companies operating in Kenya, the network aims to further strengthen EU-Kenya business cooperation.
