Loyal to the end: Raila’s bodyguard Maurice Ogeta seen securing jet carrying his former boss’s body
In what can be described as loyalty to the end, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, has been spotted strolling around the Spartan Kenyan Air Force One, which carried his former boss’s body, despite the heavy presence of military officials.
Maurice Ogeta accompanied the body from Embakasi Airbase, where it was airlifted to Kisumu under the close watch of a military helicopter.

After alighting from the aircraft, dressed in his trademark black shades just like he used to during his days providing cover for Raila Odinga and clad in black attire, he was seen moving around the Kenyan Air Force One.
He was also looking side to side with his hands behind his back as preparations to offload the body were underway. He was in the company of other military officials.

Maurice Ogeta was with Raila in India, where the former Prime Minister met his death. He was seen overwhelmed with emotions and being comforted by the Kenyan delegation that had been sent to repatriate Raila’s body back to the country.
He was also seen in an emotional moment on Friday, October 18, 2025, in Parliament during the public viewing.

Known for his calm demeanour and being Raila’s last line of defence, he was unable to control his emotions and appeared at his lowest, even as he shook President William Ruto’s hand.
Raila’s remains have landed at Kisumu International Airport and are set to be transported on a gun carrier to Mamboleo Stadium, where the public viewing will take place.

Upon landing, the former prime minister’s body was accorded a water cannon salute as the Spartan Kenyan Air Force One plane reserved for VVIPs passed beneath the water arch.

This is a tradition mostly reserved for members of the aviation fraternity upon retirement or during the launch of a new airline. However, following the presidential proclamation that the former prime minister be accorded a state funeral with full military honours, the same was extended to him.
Raila’s remains are set to be laid to rest in Bondo at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, where his father and mother were buried.
