Residents of the Kasipul constituency in Homa Bay have raised the red flag over the numerous cases of political violence in the area.

A number of casualties, mainly youths, have fallen victim with several of the incidences turning fatal.

Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were has now issued a stern warning to a number of politicians as well as national government and county officials whom he had accused of ferrying the criminals.

According to the MP, a number of the said youths who have been terrorising the region are ferried from other regions including Nairobi.

The MP, who named ten of the sponsored gangs, said some are being sponsored by some of his opponents who want to unseat him in the 2027 elections.

Known goons

“We have been living in a cohesive constituency for the past five years and we have been able to implement a number of development projects,” said the MP who is serving his second term.

According to the MP, in the past six months he has been attacked four times and even some of his aides kidnapped and attacked by goons known to them.

“At first I was attacked at Kalando area during a funeral service, second time my vehicle was deflated by known goons, who knifed the occupants and even abducted one of them at around 2pm then released at midnight and he is recuperating well,” the MP alleged, saying local police took no action despite the matter being reported to them.

Were has been a fierce critic of the government despite the formation of the broad-based government. He has been at loggerheads with a number of government and UDA officials from Homa Bay whom he accused of jeopardising his role as the Kasipul MP.

Were especially took issues with the Kemsa board member Hesborn Omollo whom he advised to concentrate on his role and keep off from the constituency politics.

In his recent address, Omollo condemned the ongoing violence in Homa Bay and especially in Kasipul, appealing to the youth not to be misused by politicians to attack others especially during funerals and public gatherings. “Different views amongst us leaders should not lead into chaos, we must remain peaceful.”

Were also advised his opponents to carry out their campaigns in peace saying he is ready to face them head-on in 2027.
